I’ve not updated my blog in a while, sorry about this. College classes are back in full swing and at work we are gearing up for a big literacy push in all the classrooms.. We are getting ready to do a parent night with a literacy theme next month. My classes are going well. I did not realize that when I signed up for my English class that it had a volunteer component to it. There were several volunteer agencies to choose from, covering everything from animals, AIDS, children, to the environment. While all of the agencies appealed to me, I choose to join the BSU Volunteer Service Board, mainly because they cover a lot of different community needs and they do a lot of activities on Saturdays, which works best with my schedule. I’ve already attended two of their Service Saturdays and the Orientation.
The first Saturday Service I ended up at Arts in the Park. Arts in the Park is a major fundraiser for the Boise Art Museum (BAM). The group was stood at information booths and trying to sell raffle tickets. We also gave people information in order to find specific artists or the most common question; where could they find the Children’s Art Corner. That question was often asked by weary parents dragging dog-tired children. I managed to talk two people into buying tickets, so I raised a whole fifteen dollars for BAM.
Even though I didn’t raise a lot of money for BAM, I had a lot of fun helping people try to find that specific artist they were looking for. I also met up with a lot of my friends and past acquaintances. I passed Arts in Park several times before I volunteered and told myself I should go and check it out. But I just came up with excuses. After volunteering, I went back and found a couple Christmas gifts for my family. I also went and toured the Museum; there was a lot of cool artwork.

Summer Vacation
Well I finally made it into the digital age. I now have a blog and a web site. Check out my web site here.

I had a busy summer. I went to Salt Lake for my Stampin' Up convention and then went camping with my family in early August. We went to Mud Lake , my brother Joseph brought up his horses and his canoe. We had 24 people there, about 12 kids and 12 adults. We had fun going for rides on the horses. I'm a novice when it comes to riding horses, so my sister-in-law Kerrie was telling me if I started to fall, just hold onto the saddle horn, unless the horse decided to brush me off in the trees, then I'd have to jump off. Then we started to adust the stirrups to fit my short legs. We positioned the stirrup as high as it would go, but it was still too long for me. We then tried the children sized stirrups but they were too short. Kerrie said something to the effect of "Well, if the horse tries to brush you off, just do the best you can to jump off. But I don't think you can clear the saddle, because you won't have enough levelage out of the stirrups." By the time we were ready to go, I was really feeling confident. Then they threw my four year old nephew, Ethan, on the back of my horse. So not only did I have to worry about me staying on the horse, I had to worry about the little guy as well. Mind you, there were three other horses that he could have rode, but lets put him with the rider with the least experience.

My siter, Becca and her two youngest, Isabelle and Xander. Xander said 'Real cowboys suck on pacifers and wears a Dora the Explore helmets'.
I'm happy to report not only did everyone survive, we even made it out in one peice.
Other then horse riding and canoeing, there was plenty to keep eveyone busy. There was s small pond full of mud, pollywogs and frogs. The children had lots of fun rescuing frogs. By the time we left, the pond was full of children's shoes as well. My Mom wandered all over the country looking for mushrooms, but Joseph found the biggest growth within 100 yards of camp. There were also wild strawberries, they were about the size of a very small pea, but they added a lot of favor to our pancakes. I brought up the new Stephenie Meyer book "Breaking Dawn" and spent most of my time trying to chase it down as my sisters and nieces are reading the series as well.
All and all it was a great vacation.
